Christian's Bike - Remake

BMX Collector and RAD enthusiast Mannin Tucker has built the Mongoose Californian Christian rode in the movie. He procured a bunch of NOS items for this and it has turned out killer. Also if you know of any Christian look-a-likes, hook him up, he is in need of a back flip coach and ass sliding partner. :)

DK Racer - Robert Rupe's Bike Profile

Robert Rupe gave me an update today on the bike he rode in RAD. You might remember him as the DK racer in HellTrack. He was the last rider I needed to complete the bike profiles. Not sure if all the parts are 100% correct but we are a lot closer thanks to his input.

My grandma was cleaning out some old stuff and found these photos of us on the set at RAD. This shot is of Everett Rosecrans and it looks like Scott Clark in the back ground.

This shot is Everett in the foreground with Eddie Fiola in the blue shirt. I am in the yellow shirt and my brother is right behind me showing off his muscles. The guy behind us is Hal Needham and it looks like Bill Allen' s nose behind him. Checkout that nice Mongoose at the bottom of the photo.

Mini RAD

This might be one of the craftiest RAD fans ever. Marc Dewey has recreated Cru and his bike from a stock Flick Trix Mongoose and clay. Pretty impressive work and I especially like the realistic backgrounds.

Pro Class Chainwheel

I searched hi and low for an original blue Mongoose Pro Class Chain wheel. I bought a blk one and then got a faded red one with the purchase of the frame and fork. The red was crisp under the chain ring and around the center so I turned to the BMX Museum restoration archives on how to remove the red ano. Found a complicated Chemist version of caustic something and drano. I opted for the Easy Off yellow can that someone recommended. This shit was amazing. I sprayed it on and the red bubbled right off like peroxide on a elbow full of rocks. Any way highly recommend it. Now to make it blue I once again gained knowledge from the museum about a spray paint that looks anodized. What, that sounds to good to be true. Home Depot, no clue never heard of it. Kragen, jackass behind the counter was out of stock and didn't want to order me one can. Pepboys, every color in stock. I bought Duplicolor Metalcast. This works awesome. Here is the result.

An 85 Mongoose Frame and Fork

Well the key component is here for Cru Jones look a like bike. Spent most of the day stripping GT decals, silver spray, and some kind of black tar. Underneath was a nice chrome finish for an 85 rider. Getting the cups pressed in tomorrow. Here is a before the clean up.

Building Cru's bike

So now that I have started this blog, the need to recreate the bike Cru rode in RAD is my new mission. I have already completed an 85 Dyno, 87 GT Performer, 89 Pro Performer and a 92 Robinson. With all this experience I should be in good shape. Currently in the research mode and collecting the info to get this as authentic as possible.
