The RAD Museum - At the Bicycle Source

If you are in the Orange County, CA area be sure to stop by The Bicycle Source. This place is full of new school, and vintage BMX gear. They also have indoor ramps that kick butt. A portion of the RAD museum, including bikes and some other stuff is also on display. So check it out.

Thank you.

I can officially say that this site has been viewed globally. Yesterday we had visits from every continent (except Antarctica) including such far away places as the Dominican Republic, Pakistan, Iran, Ireland, Nigeria and Iceland. It is amazing to see that so many people are interested in RAD. Thanks for visiting and come back anytime.

Return of Hella Track - From ESPN

For the second year running, the Boomtown BMX track in Shasta Lake, Calif. has put on the Hella Track event. A racing event and jumping competition influenced by Rad's Helltrack, this year's event brought out riders from all over California, including locals like Jeremy Kaiser and Aaron Day, Chad Bautista, Stephen Perjanik, and Colby Kanawah from the Bay Area, and former midget Cory Walters.

Additionally, this year's course modified the existing track to include the following:
  • A gateless roll-in platform built above the existing gate deck.
  • A right-side grind ledge on the first tabletop of the second straight.
  • A decision-maker on the third straight, leading to either a pair of fast doubles or a large wooden pyramid.
  • A wallride on the final berm.
  • A in-and-out satellite dish setup on the return route for the second lap.
Yes, two laps. Taking a break in filming to ride the course, I can tell you that even one lap on this track was tiring. Two laps was "hella" tiring. That being said, this was a real fun event to come out and see, and a lot of effort and love went into making this happen. Here's what event organizer Nick Scoma has to say:

"Hella Track is our "modern re-creation" of the epic Helltrack from the BMX movie "RAD." Dirt jumps, wood ramps, park and freestyle obstacles scattered about a BMX race track for a two-lap endurance race to the finish! This was our second annual Hella Track, made possible by hours of volunteer work from RDG BMX, Boomtown BMX, and POWS BMX -- all Redding-local BMX organizations that came together to pull off a really fun BMX event! Plans for next year are better ramps, better jumps, and the same good times!"

NORCO Freestyle Team

These Canadian guys played a big role in RAD and didn't get the credit they deserved, in my opinion. So here is alittle history courtesy of Pat Lipovski that I think is very interesting. He also told me a great story that the crew asked him to take Rick Moliterno to the airport after he injured his leg and subsequently missed the scene where all the riders are introduced as HellTrack racers. Only Kirk Bihun is listed out of four Norco riders in RAD.
